The Autódromo Ciudad de Rafaela, located 7.5 km to the north of the centre of Rafaela in the province of Santa Fe, is one of the oldest permanent racing circuits in Argentina.
Opening in 1953 as a dirt oval, the track hosted races of the popular Turismo Carretera series, with races having been held as far back as 1919 on non-permanent circuits.
It took until 1966 for the circuit to be paved, and five years later the circuit was improved further, with widening and a banking of 15% applied to the two radial corners of the oval layout.
In 1987, the circuit utilised chicanes for the first time in the annual Turismo Carretera race. TC2000 on the other hand has typically preferred to use the short circuit with a cut through in the middle of the oval, although it has also used the oval with chicanes, including on its most recent visit.
The circuit has been run in both a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction. Nowadays, the races are run in an anti-clockwise direction. TC2000 held a race on the oval without chicanes in 2005.
In 2008, the second chicane, halfway along the back straight, was reprofiled, allowing a tighter variation to be used by TC2000.
In 2015, the first chicane was also remodelled, with a new tighter kink, used by TC2000, added to allow for an additional variation on the layout.
