The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is located in Montmeló, Catalunya, approximately 15 km to the north-east of Barcelona.
Opened in 1991, the circuit was constructed to host the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, although it was the Spanish Touring Car Championship which held the honour of staging the first event there.
The circuit has been modified several times over the decades, although they have been predominantly focussed on the penultimate turn and, in more recent years, Turn 10 at the end of the back straight.
A popular testing venue, the circuit features a variety of corners, and is located on a plateau in the area, making it visible (and audible) in the surrounding locale.
Major international touring car series did not regularly visit the circuit until the creation of the TCR Europe series in 2018. Since then, the circuit has become a popular venue on the European calendar.
