Amaroo Park was a 1.9 km circuit on the north-western outskirts of Sydney which held touring car races in the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. The circuit closed in 1998 to be redeveloped into suburban housing.
The first races were held in 1967, but soon after the circuit went quiet for a couple of years, before the operation of the circuit was taken over by the Australian Racing Drivers Club (ARDC).
The track reopened in 1970, and by 1974 was holding top Australian Touring Car Championship events, with Peter Brock winning the first-ever event that year.
During the 1980s, the circuit safety came into question after two fatalities, but the tight confines meant upgrades would be challenging.
The opening of Sydney Motorsport Park in the early 1990s played a further part in the circuit’s demise, and by the end of the decade the final racing event had been held.
After the ATCC held its last race in 1994, the final major events were the Australian Super Touring Championship up until the penultimate year of the circuit.
