Un-Limited Motorsport says it is targeting a two-car team in the 2025 British Touring Car Championship, following a positive start to its maiden campaign this year.
The touring car team was formed at short notice for the start of the 2024 season in order to run an ex-Team HARD CUPRA for young Filipino-Brit Daryl DeLeon Taylor.
The 18-year-old has since scored eight points finishes from the opening 18 races, and in the Independents’ category he has twice finished second in class, showing flashes of promise.
DeLeon would have had two more points finishes, but for a brace of false start penalties at Croft last weekend, arguably his best in the championship so far, where he was on course for a career-equalling tenth in the final race before the time penalty was applied.
Team Owner Bob Sharpless is hoping to keep DeLeon in the driving seat, along with adding another car for next season.
“This team wasn’t even thought of 12 months ago, and in January, we decided to compete at the pinnacle of British motorsport,” said Sharpless.
“We didn’t know how the results would go or how reliable the car would be. So far, the car’s been reliable.
“It may have been, up until Oulton Park, not quite quick enough, but we’ve shown good pace since then and we just want to keep building on that.
“For 2025, we want to have two cars out there. We would be delighted to keep Daryl and add another driver to the line-up, but we will see. That’s actively what we’re now starting to do: having conversations with drivers, partners, etc.
“We want to improve the car, make it faster, more driveable, and to have the budget to improve the car for next year and the remaining races of this season.
“We would love to get points everywhere. An independent win would be lovely, but points are the main achievement for now.”
Team Principal Tom Granger praised the approach of the team this year, and hinted at what people should expect from 2025.
“I’ve worked with other teams before, and there’s a very clear difference in how everyone gets on here at Un-Limited Motorsport with Duckhams Racing,” added Granger.
“Instead of just buying solutions like bigger teams, we come together to find creative ways to overcome challenges, creating a closer-knit environment with a lot of integrity.
“The goals for the rest of the year would be to progress into the top ten. If we can sneak a good result, we will. Moving forward, the more we do, the more we learn, and the quicker we should be.
“For 2025, we plan to run two cars and are we are also looking at the new junior touring car series. In 2025, people can expect the unexpected from our team.”
Dave Tyson, Team Manager, added: “The level of the people we have in the team is very high. Our targets are to be more consistent, get points at every round, and build our car into a competitive package.
“Budget is always a critical factor of course, and with the right support we believe we can make great progress.
“We have a good structure now within the team, and this is clearly shown with the marked improvements in the car.
“Daryl has shown remarkable progress too. He’s a raw talent and we’re committed to nurturing his skills and providing him with the experience and machinery needed to excel.”
