EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram topped the times in the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session at a cool and dry Donington Park on Saturday morning.
As usual, the BMW drivers traded top times early in the session, along with Toyota’s Andrew Watson, before Ingram emerged as the quickest driver just after the chequered flag had flown.
The Hyundai racer ended up three tenths of a second ahead of NAPA Racing UK’s Dan Cammish, who had gone to the top of the times eight minutes previously.
Daniel Rowbottom was third, a further tenth of a second behind his team-mate, ahead of BMW’s Colin Turkington in fourth, who had momentarily been quickest a minute before Cammish usurped him.
Aiden Moffat was the leading Toyota in fifth for the Speedworks satellite team, just over half a second adrift, ahead of BMW’s Adam Morgan in sixth.
Reigning champion Ash Sutton put his NAPA Racing Ford in seventh, six tenths off his title rival last year, ahead of Power Maxed Racing’s Árón Taylor-Smith in eighth as the leading Vauxhall.
The top ten was completed by Toyota’s Andrew Watson and NAPA’s Sam Osborne, whilst 11th-placed Josh Cook was the only other driver within a second of the pace.
Daryl DeLeon propped up the timesheets in the newly liveried and named Duckhams Racing with Bartercard CUPRA.
EXCELR8’s Tom Chilton completed ten laps but did not post a time due to pitting five times.
Second practice is at 12:35 BST, followed by qualifying at 15:25 BST.
