Jake Hill left Oulton Park “pleased with myself” after a double win and a second place finish to storm up the standings. The MB Motorsport driver over halved his gap to championship leader Ash Sutton.
The performance had seen a rise in form that we had not seen so far this season. Even Sutton said “They’ve had a dominant weekend, no different to what we did at Thruxton. So it’s going to get interesting”. That being the case, Hill could not find the words to describe his sunday.
“I don’t know how you can sum it up really, it’s just bloody awesome in every way.” Hill told TouringCars.Net. “The car’s been on rails this weekend and we’ve delivered. I’ve delivered, I feel like I’ve driven the best I have this year so far.
“My first ever double win in touring cars and to back that up with a second and three fastest laps, I’m pleased with myself. I can honestly say I’m pleased with myself for once.”
After the Sunday that Hill had he cut Sutton’s championship lead down from 53 points to 26. Feeling like “The step forward we made with the setup this weekend would hopefully transfer to other circuits” saying so before any action on Sunday took place.
Even with the rise in performance Hill knows that the incident that left Sutton retired in race three will not be a regular occurance.
“Listen, these things happen, it’s touring cars, you never know what’s going to happen. It seemed like Ash was untouchable and all of a sudden we’re on fire. Tom’s still very close and Ash has had a DNF. So, these things can turn around.”
Now there is a near six week summer break before racing resumes at Croft at the end of July. Most would think it might be frustrating hitting such a good run of form without getting to use that momentum. Not Jake Hill.
“No, it’s cool. In two weeks we’ve got the tyre test, so we’re going to try and get this baby working a bit better and see what happens when we go to Croft or Knockhill, I can’t remember which one’s next.”
