Jake Hill launches off the line to steal race one win from Ash Sutton at Oulton Park

Jake Hill got off to a great start at Oulton Park launching into the lead of the opening British Touring Car Championship race off the line, denying an attack from Ash Sutton to take victory. The win moves Hill up to third in the championship.

MB Motorsport’s Hill got off to the perfect launch but it did not mean the race was done and dusted. Sutton kept close and made attacks into Old Hall and Cascades but the NAPA Racing UK star could not get through. After the opening exchanges Hill built up a gap of over a second and kept that gap to the flag.

Tom Ingram advanced through the field to take yet another podium taking his tally to eight fo the season. Ingram got past Bobby Thompson off the line after a poor start for the Team HARD driver. The EXCELR8 driver made his way up to third by lap five but could not close the gap to the top two.

Toyota’s Ricky Collard came home in fourth, defending throughout to keep cars behind him. A 7.618 second gap to Ingram ahead meant Collard’s eyes were firmly fixed in the mirrors. NAPA Racing’s Dan Cammish could not break through, finishing 0.402 seconds behind the Toyota Gazoo Racing UK car.

The gaps continued to be tight in the middle of the top ten as Cammish was not clear from the cars behind either. One Motorsport’s Josh Cook kept the NAPA Racing UK driver honest pushing him to finish with only a half-second margin.

Thompson would recover after the poor start to bring his CUPRA home in seventh place. Also in the queue stuck behind Collard, Thompson would also have a small gap to the driver in front with less than half a second to Cook’s Honda.

Adam Morgan was the lead Team BMW car in eighth who, along with teammate Stephen Jelley, were trading positions throughout the race. Jelley would round out the top ten but Colin Turkington in between meant all BMWs featured in the top ten.

Turkington was the driver to come home in ninth after a tremendous drive from last on the grid after being excluded from Saturday’s qualifying session. Starting in 27th meant a difficult Sunday was expected. This was not the case as the four-time champion made up 18 places in race one.

Árón Taylor-Smith had run in the top ten for much of the race, but on the penultimate lap the Irishman crashed out of tenth in a high-speed shunt with NAPA’s Daniel Rowbottom.

Rowbottom had suffered from a brake failure heading up to Druids, and as he took to the grass on the inside of the corner he careered into Taylor-Smith, taking out the innocent Power Maxed Racing driver.
