Jessica Bäckman will contest the final races of this year’s ADAC TCR Germany series in a new-spec Audi RS3 LMS TCR after joining Comtoyou Racing from the Sachsenring.
Bäckman, second in the drivers’ standings, had previously raced with ROJA Motorsport in a Hyundai Veloster N, but after being taken out by Team Principal Robin Jahr at the last round at the Lausitzring, the Swede left the team.
“I’m looking forward to racing again,” said the 25-year-old. “It will be exciting to try out an Audi and drive for the experienced team Comtoyou Racing for the first time, as well as learn a completely new track. It will be an exciting weekend.
“The Sachsenring is known for being a technically advanced track, it will be challenging to get up to speed quickly as we only have two free practice sessions before qualifying starts on Friday. I’m looking forward to the weekend.
“After the Lausitzring round, we chose to go our separate ways with ROJA Motorsport. We have achieved great results together but now I am looking forward to new challenges.
“I’m very happy to announce that I will be driving for Comtoyou Racing for the remaining two race weekends in the series.
“It will be very exciting but at the same time a real challenge considering the limited preparations, but a challenge I’m looking forward to.”
Team Manager François Verbist welcomed Bäckman into the Belgian team.
“I’m happy to welcome Jessica into our team,” said Verbist. “Since few years back we were fighting each other in TCR Europe, and she was always a difficult one to beat.
“It’s never easy to jump into a championship during the year but I am sure with her speed and our knowledge of the Audi RS3 LMS TCR gen 2 we have a competitive line up. Looking forward to this weekend.”
