Team BMW’s Andrew Jordan scored the first victory for the new-for-2019 BMW 330i M Sport in race two of the 2019 British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch after scything through the field from 15th on the grid.
Race one winner Josh Cook led the opening third of the race from pole position, before Ash Sutton reeled in a three-second gap and challenged for the lead.
He made the move at Graham Hill Bend, and Andrew Jordan – who gained eight positions on the opening lap alone – followed him through before making the move for the win on Sutton at Paddock Hill Bend at the start of lap 17.
Sutton’s Subaru Levorg fell backwards thereafter as the softer-compound Dunlop tyres wore, and an extremely tight battle for second followed, with Sutton holding on by just 0.022s from Adam Morgan who completed the podium.
Jake Hill, who secured a podium in race one, narrowly missed out on the silverware in fourth position, followed closely by 2018 runner-up Tom Ingram whose late pace paid dividends in fifth.
Team Parker Racing’s Stephen Jelley was right in the mix in the closing stages before he dived down the inside of Hill at Graham Hill Bend but slid wide on the exit and lost out, eventually coming home sixth ahead of erstwhile leader Josh Cook.
Rory Butcher scored points again, finishing in eighth position, while Tom Chilton finished ninth after initially running second in the opening laps before rapidly dropping back.
Adrian Flux Subaru Racing’s Senna Proctor completed the top ten, with Matt Neal leading home team-mate Dan Cammish in 11th and 12th respectively.
Another impressive performance from Team HARD’s Bobby Thompson saw him finish 13th after a sixth-place finish in race one, and fending off a big challenge from with reigning champion Colin Turkington in the closing stages.
The three-time champion struggled to make progress in 14th, with team-mate Tom Oliphant scoring the final point in 15th.
Jack Goff was also in that fight but narrowly missed out on the points ahead of Aiden Moffat who fell back after starting fourth on the grid and battling for the podium in the early laps.
Jason Plato struggled on the soft tyre to finish 21st ahead of Power Maxed Racing team-mate Rob Collard.
Race three of the 2019 British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch Indy is scheduled to get underway at 17:05 BST, with Matt Neal being drawn on reverse-grid pole.
