Colin Turkington aiming to repeat last season’s Donington Park success

Two-time British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington is hoping for a ‘similar trio of results to last year’ at Donington Park this weekend, after mixed fortunes at the Brands Hatch season opener.

The Northern Irishman endured a tight battle with Jack Goff to take second in race one at Brands Hatch, achieving a landmark 100th podium finish for the WSR-run BMW 125i M Sport.

His weekend took a negative turn on the grid for race two, though, as an intermittent problem resulted in 27th place finish, a lap off the leaders.

In typical Turkington fashion he fought back through the pack to record ninth in race three, salvaging a decent points haul to place him sixth in the standings heading into this weekend.

“It was great to secure a podium on our first race of 2018 at Brands Hatch but an unfortunate issue with the car had me fighting back for races two and three,” said Turkington.

“Despite this, we left feeling optimistic about the pace and potential of the BMW.  It’s a long season ahead!”

Last season, Turkington had a successful outing at Leicestershire’s Donington Park, with two top-five finishes followed by victory in the final race of the day.

This weekend, he will carry 33kg of success ballast into qualifying and race one, as he sits sixth in the drivers championship.

“It’s time to look ahead to Donington now and I’m aiming for a similar trio of results to last year,” he said.

“It was here I collected my first win of 2017 and took two further top-five finishes.

“This year looks more competitive than ever though so we must ensure we’ve done our homework before the weekend.”
