Esteban Guerrieri lead a Münnich Motorsport 1-2 in second practice for the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) on the streets of Marrakech, with Honda team-mate Yann Ehrlacher just 0.052 seconds behind.
Guerrieri jumped to the top of the times in the final seconds of the wet practice session, pipping French team-mate Ehrlacher by just half a tenth of a second.
“It’s quite tricky overall,” said Guerrieri. “You need to find progressively the limits of the track, just to get the speed up with this kind of car on a street circuit.
“It’s never easy, even more so in these conditions. It’s a progression towards qualifying – it doesn’t count for much yet – but in the end we are looking good. We’re very much concentrating on what is going to happen next.”
Ehrlacher had earlier hit the top of the times after 20 minutes, before going even quicker at the end as the track continued to dry, before Guerrieri went marginally faster.
The morning’s early pace setter Thed Björk was third in the leading YMR Hyundai, three tenths off the pace, ahead of the BRC-run Hyundai of Gabriele Tarquini in fourth.
Pepe Oriola was once again in the top five in the Campos Racing CUPRA, whilst WRT’s Jean-Karl Vernay was the leading Audi driver in sixth.
Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Rob Huff was seventh in his Volkswagen, with the Brit being the last driver inside a second of the pace. Aurélien Comte was eighth quickest in the leading Peugeot.
Completing the top ten were the Boutsen Ginion Racing Honda of Benjamin Lessennes and the second WRT Audi of Gordon Shedden, with the latter having solved the brake problems that blighted his first practice session.
The biggest change compared to first practice was that of the Team Mulsanne Alfa Romeos, with neither Fabrizio Giovanardi (15th) or Gianni Morbidelli (23rd) able to crack the top ten.
BRC Racing’s Norbert Michelisz caused an early red flag when the Hungarian stopped on the track after around ten minutes, with his Hyundai suffering from a technical issue that left it unable to return to the pits.
Qualifying for race one takes place at 13:00 BST (14:00 CEST) with the first race then following at 17:00 BST (18:00 CEST).
