The planned TCR Las Americas Series was officially presented in the Dominican Republic last weekend, where TCR promoter Marcello Lotti met with interested parties.
The series had originally been announced in May 2016, with a planned start date for later in the year, before news vanished and the series was put on hold.
Now plans to get the new series off the ground have resurfaced, with at least three events to be held at the Autódromo Sunix in Santo Domingo.
“Finally we have been able to get TCR Las América underway, although a bit later than expected,” said Lotti. “The previous plans have been delayed because we felt the need to better understand the situation of the local competitors.
“This also enabled us to find enthusiastic and reliable partners for running the series, so now we can be confident that it will be successful.
“In fact there is a lot of interest in Central America, a region that has always had good tradition for touring car competition.”
Drivers got the opportunity to test the Audi RS3 LMS TCR, SEAT León and Volkswagen Golf GTi.
After the events in the Dominican Republic, two events are planned in Mexico at a circuit yet to be announced.
