Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff was the pace-setter in second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Croft, ahead of an impressive effort by Subaru’s Josh Price.
Goff went to the top of the timesheets with just three and a half minutes to go, putting in a time which was around half a second slower than the pace set in the morning’s earlier session by Tom Ingram.
Price was the top Subaru runner thanks to a late improvement with just two minutes to go, with the rookie ending up just under three tenths behind Goff’s pace.
Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan was once again third fastest, ahead of Speedworks’ Ingram in fourth. Morgan had earlier briefly been fastest when the red flags came out in the session after 20 minutes when Matt Simpson’s Honda went off the circuit and needed to be recovered.
The second Subaru of Ash Sutton was fifth fastest, ahead of the leading Toyota of Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin in sixth, just a slither over half a second off the pace.
Josh Cook was the leading MG driver in seventh, whilst his team-mate Árón Taylor-Smith also improved on his earlier pace to end the session in 19th.
Motorbase’s Mat Jackson was eighth, whilst the second Ciceley Mercedes of Aiden Moffat and Honda’s Matt Neal completed the top ten.
The session was more competitive than first practice, with the top 14 down to late improver Jason Plato covered by less than a second.
All three of the top drivers in the championship standings struggled for pace, with BMW’s Colin Turkington in 12th being the best of the trio. His team-mate Rob Collard was 18th thanks to a late improvement, whilst championship leader Gordon Shedden was just 26th, some 1.3 seconds off the pace.
Having missed much of the early running in the session, the second Eurotech Racing Honda of Brett Smith was another of the drivers to improve late on, ending up in 13th position.
Team HARD’s Jake Hill took to the circuit late on due to issues with his car in the early stages, completing five laps and ending up in 24th.
Qualifying is scheduled to take place at 15:50 BST.
