Tom Ingram positive after finishing ’13 centimeters’ off pole position

Tom Ingram is looking forward to a strong penultimate meeting of the British Touring Car Championship season at Silverstone tomorrow after the Speedworks Motorsport pilot qualified second, 0.03 seconds adrift of MG’s Ashley Sutton.

Ingram, who maintains his record as the strongest qualifier of the thirty-one strong field this season, was unable to improve on his fastest time after the red flag stoppage five minutes from the end of the session, and ultimately will have to console himself with another front-row start.

After an off-colour weekend last time out at Rockingham, the ever-impressive rising star believes that some positive changes have put the Toyota Avensis package back on track, and provided an insight into just how minimal the difference to the MG6 was this afternoon.

“That was super close. We believe that the 0.003s time difference is 13 centimetres on track.” explained Ingram.

“Rockingham wasn’t quite up to our standards so after some positive changes it looks like we’re back to where we were at the start of the year.”

Regardless of how close behind Sutton he finished this afternoon, Ingram believes tomorrow will prove a different contest and admitted his focus was on a strong hat-trick of results on Sunday when all but a single point will be awarded.

“I will try my best and there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t turn that into good results tomorrow. Qualifying is one thing though and racing is another, so we need to make sure we have a good Sunday.”
