The newly-announced TC3 International Series will now be known as the TCR International Series following the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sports Council meeting in Qatar this week.
At the same time the international touring car series has received the approval of the FIA WMSC, with the promoter WSC Ltd. opting to use this as an opportunity to change the name. It has also been announced that Marcello Lotti has been appointed as CEO of the company.
“The name TC3 has been chosen to introduce the technical concept of a global Touring Car category, based on production cars, that was affordable to private teams and drivers and inspired by the existing GT3 concept,” explained Lotti.
“We have decided on the change of name of the series to TCR that will create a strong and personal identity for the new series. In addition, the name change will avoid any potential confusion with other Touring Car championships and series that might suggest pre-arranged hierarchies.”
Lotti makes reference to the World Touring Car Championship, which he used to promote, which this season used the TC1 and TC2 nomenclatures.
The new TCR International Series website has now been changed to www.tcr-series.com.
