TCR World Tour, New Zealand feature on overhauled 2025 TCR Australia calendar

The calendar for the 2025 TCR Australia series has been unveiled, featuring two rounds in New Zealand, one in conjunction with the FIA TCR World Tour, along with a reduced five-round schedule in order to reduce costs.

The season will open and close with events in New Zealand, starting with the TCR Trans-Tasman Trophy at Taupō Motorsport Park on 11 – 13 April.

That event, along with the following two, will be held in the frame of the country’s leading championship Supercars, with TCR part of the touring car support package.

Ever since TCR Australia was announced, there had been plans to have the two series share the bill at selected events.

Two months later on 6 – 8 June the series will make its first visit to Western Australia with a round at Wanneroo Raceway.

Winton Raceway also returns to the schedule with the third event on 22 – 24 August, having been omitted in 2024 but included in the début year in 2019 and in 2023.

The penultimate event of the year will be held at The Bend Motorsport Park on 12 – 14 September, the only 2024 venue which is confirmed to be returning to the schedule.

The event at The Bend will be the first of two staged with the FIA TCR World Tour, with the season finale taking place at a yet-to-be-confirmed circuit in New Zealand in November.

The reduction in events from seven to five has been planned to reduce the operating costs for teams, whilst partnering with Supercars and the FIA TCR World Tour increases the profile of the events.

Assistance with freight costs for both rounds in New Zealand will be provided to teams.

The restructured calendar is “part of a long-term commitment from WSC Group and TCR Australia to realise the potential of the global touring car formula in Australia and New Zealand” said a statement from the series organisers.

“After sealing the deal to bring the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour back to Australia for the event at The Bend, we have looked into the possibility to further extend our friendly co-operation with TCR Australia,” said WSC Group President Marcello Lotti.

“We are delighted to announce that this has led to the addition of a second joint event in our respective calendars.

“We are also pleased with the co-operation TCR Australia has established with the Supercars Championship, as this will contribute to reinforce the popularity and visibility of TCR competition in the country.”

Lisa Totani, TCR Australia Category Manager, believes the calendar provides a crucial ‘revitalisation’ for the series.

“The 2025 calendar delivers a revitalised era for TCR Australia, putting the global touring car category in the spotlight of more Australian and international motor racing fans,” added Totani.

“We are delighted to join the Supercars Championship at three rounds in 2025 and welcome back the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour to the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, which is a clear favourite amongst teams and drivers.

“I look forward to working closely with WSC, as part of a strengthened relationship between WSC Group and TCR Australia, to showcase the unpredictable and entertaining racing that underpins TCR.”
