Colin Turkington is looking forward to starting his 20th year in the British Touring Car Championship, as the Northern Irishman targets a fifth drivers’ title.
Turkington last won the BTCC in 2019, the first year of the G20 BMW 3 Series, and since then he has finished as runner-up in 2020 and 2021, and then fourth overall for the past two seasons.
The 42-year-old has continued to be an ever-present threat at the front of the field, and last year added an additional four victories to his tally to take it to 67 wins overall.
Although Turkington has been consistent, like the rest of the field he was outclassed by Ash Sutton last year, and he is expecting to be closer to the title fight than he was last year, in what will be his 20th year in the BTCC.
“It’s finally here, our first race weekend of the season,” said Turkington, who made his BTCC début back in 2002. “I’m looking forward to starting my 20th season in BTCC and kicking things off afresh with the upgrades to our BMW.
“We made good progress last week at our final three tests and I’m much more comfortable with the car now.
“We’ve learned a lot in the past few weeks, but we won’t really know the fruits of our labour until qualifying on Saturday when everyone is showing their true pace.
“The new rules are adding to the anticipation and excitement of the new season and that is fantastic.
“The target is always to win the Drivers’, Teams’ and Manufacturers’ titles and I’m sure that the improvements that WSR have made to the BMW will give me a better chance of going to the final round in contention for the big prize than in 2023.
“A big thank you goes to my team at WSR for a huge effort lately – they’ve been putting in a hard graft on the cars after an already busy winter of upgrade work.”
