Adam Morgan leads BMW 1-2-3 in second Silverstone practice

Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan led a BMW 1-2-3 in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Silverstone, edging out Team BMW’s Stephen Jelley by just 0.014 seconds.

Morgan improved three times in quick succession just over 15 minutes into the session, initially with a lap of 57.808 seconds before ultimately setting the benchmark of 57.601 seconds, which was less than a tenth of a second quicker than the times from first practice.

Jelley went second with three minutes left to run, the WSR driver just 0.014 seconds adrift of Morgan’s 3-Series.

Ciceley’s George Gamble completed the BMW 1-2-3, also within a tenth of the pace, ahead of the leading Toyota of Ricky Collard in fourth.

Collard had missed the opening minutes of the session as his team worked to repair the damage to his Corolla from first practice, when he had come together with Team HARD’s Will Powell. The latter was later officially reprimanded for the incident.

MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill was fifth, just over a tenth of a second off the pace, ahead of the second Toyota of Rory Butcher in sixth.

Seventh-placed Colin Turkington made it all five BMWs in the top seven places, the championship leader being 0.191 seconds slower than Morgan.

This time it was Team HARD’s Bobby Thompson who was the leading CUPRA driver in eighth, with Team Dynamics’ Gordon Shedden, the leading Honda, and Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat completing the top ten.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 15:05 BST.
