PMO Motorsport confirms three Lynk & Co cars for TCR South America

PMO Motorsport has confirmed it will run three Lynk & Co 03 TCR cars in the 2022 TCR South America series, with Fabricio Pezzini, José Manuel Sapag and Pablo Otero racing the Chinese cars.

It means the team, which joined the 2021 grid in time for the third event of the season, will field an all-Argentine driver line-up this year.

Last year, the team secured five outright victories with Santiago Urrutia, Ever Franetovich and Pezzini in what was a strong maiden campaign for the team.

Pezzini joined the team for the sixth event of the year, an endurance event at Buenos Aires, where he teamed up with Ernesto Bessone on his way to a sixth placed finish.

Then, in the next two events, he won once each at Córdoba and Concepción del Uruguay, to end the year seventh overall in the drivers’ standings.

“I am happy to be able to confirm my continuity with the PMO Motorsport team in the TCR South America for this season,” said Pezzini.

“I think it will be a very nice year for the category, because there will be more drivers and more competitiveness, and we will fight and ne prepared for it.

“I hope to be able to fight for the title at the end of the year.”

Sapag raced with the Squadra Martino Honda team in all except two events in 2021, scoring four third-placed finishes and ending the year fourth overall.

The 26-year-old also competed in most of the Súper TC2000 season in Honda machinery but struggled for pace and scored just one point and a best finish of tenth on two occasions.

“I am quite happy to be able to join the team,” added Sapag, “I think the cars and the team have a lot of potential for this year.

“The Lynk & Cos are going very well. I had good partial results because I wasn’t there at several events. I hope to have more consistency this year and fight on all dates.

“I am grateful to the team for this incorporation.”

Otero raced in both Uruguayan events last year, picking up a best result of second at El Pinar to add to the third he secured in race one at Rivera.

Team Manager Enrique Mansilla expects that with Pezzini and Sapag, alongside team owner Otero, the team has a strong driver line-up for 2022.

“With Pezzini, our objective is to capitalise on his knowledge of the model to consolidate ourselves in a new year within the TCR South America,” said Mansilla.

“[Sapag’s] national and international experience in touring cars and his qualities as a driver makes us think that we can fight very high alongside him in 2022.”
