Ciceley Motorsport has confirmed that George Gamble will partner Adam Morgan in the 2022 British Touring Car Championship, where he will race one of the team’s two BMW 330e M Sport cars.
Gamble, 25, will make his début in the BTCC having enjoyed success on the TOCA support package going back to 2011.
The Nottingham racer was third overall in the 2011 Ginetta Junior Championship, and when he next tackled a full season of racing in 2014, he won the Ginetta GT5 Challenge with seven victories.
In 2017 he took on the Ginetta GT4 Supercup, finishing third overall, before switching to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB in 2018, where he was sixth in the standings.
Gamble remained in the Porsche Cup in 2019, improving to third overall. In the past two seasons, however, his racing has been limited to a single outing in the 2020 GT4 European Series at Le Castellet.
Team Owner Russell Morgan believes Gamble’s past experience will held him to adapt to racing the BMW in the BTCC.
“George’s experience and winning pedigree is clear to see, and I am sure once he has acclimatised to the championship he will be running at the sharp end,” said Morgan.
“Remaining with Car Gods as title sponsor is also excellent for continuity within the team as we approach the challenges faced by the changes involved with the switch to Hybrid Technology, which will certainly add an interesting element to the racing.”
Gamble is targeting success in the Jack Sears’ Trophy for rookie drivers in his first year in touring car racing.
“I am delighted to be joining the Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport Team for this season,” said Gamble. “Having raced on the support race package for a long time now I have always aspired to be in the main race, but equally felt it was important to be with the right team and in the right car.
“I am under no illusion that the racing will be a step up from what I am used to; the level in the championship is so high and the racing so close.
“I feel with the experience of the team and a quick driver in Adam as my teammate, I can have a solid first season and a good run at the Jack Sears Trophy title.”
Adam Morgan, who is commencing his 11th season in the BTCC, believes that Gamble’s experience in rear-wheel drive machinery, combined with the team’s one-year experience of the WSR-built machine, will pay dividends in 2022.
“It’s fantastic to have George join the team for this year,” added Adam Morgan. “His pedigree in rear-wheel-drive machinery on the TOCA package is second to none, and after our first couple of meetings together he has fit straight into the team dynamic.
“With a learning year under our belts last season with the BMW’s, we are in a brilliant position to have a proper run at the title in 2022.”
