Néstor Girolami has lost his second place finish in the second FIA World Touring Car Cup race at the Hungaroring for contact with Norbert Michelisz on the opening lap.
At the start of the race, Girolami jinked left at Turn 1, banging into Michelisz, whose Hyundai was then turned across the front of Thed Björk’s car, spinning the Hungarian to the back of the pack.
The stewards deemed Girolami to be at fault, handing him a post-race five-second penalty which dropped him to fifth.
The official report stated that “on the course of lap 1, Car #29 [Girolami] being on the right side of the track, moved to the left before Turn 1 and collided with Car #5 [Michelisz] forcing it to spin and lose several positions].
The change in result promotes Yann Ehrlacher to fourth and crucially gives the reigning champion the points lead by two points, having previously been tied with race two winner Santiago Urrutia.
