CUPRA Racing has confirmed that Mikel Azcona will feature in its driver line-up for this year’s electric PURE ETCR series, alongside Mattias Ekström and Jordi Gené.
Azcona has raced in CUPRA machinery since first tasting TCR machinery in 2018, initially in the TCR Europe series where he took the 2018 title.
The Spaniard joined the FIA World Touring Car Cup in 2019, taking one win, remaining in WTCR in 2020 with Zengő Motorsport and again taking a win.
The 24-year-old has also been active in selected events last year, taking a double victory in TCR Italy at Imola and winning three out of the four races he entered in the final two events of TCR Europe at Spa-Francorchamps and Jarama.
Azcona got his first taste of the CUPRA e-Racer last week at MotorLand Aragón. PURE ETCR will be the world’s first multi-brand all-electric touring car series when it kicks off in 2021.
