Julien Briché lamented a small mistake at the start of the second TCR Europe race at Monza which he feels cost him the chance to take another victory in the series.
Briché started the race from seventh on the grid, but a poor start allowed Brutal Fish Racing’s Dan Lloyd to get in front on the run to the first turn.
Despite that, the Frenchman fought back over the next four laps to gain position after position, before ending up in second and chasing down leader Pepe Oriola.
The JSB Compétition Peugeot driver closed down Oriola’s 1.5-second lead, but ultimately was unable to find a way past.
Despite that, second position concluded an extremely positive weekend for the 2019 runner-up, who had earlier taken his first victory of the season in Saturday’s first race.
“It was a very fair race,” said Briché. “Unfortunately, I made a big mistake at the start. I stalled and don’t know why. It was really a very bad start that made difficult to recover.
“However, eventually I finished second and battled with Pepe until the last few metres.
“It was fun and fair, though I’m definitely a bit disappointed, because without that mistake I could have won this race as well.
“Now I hope we will continue on this form for the rest of the season, beginning from the next event in Barcelona.”
