Spain-based team Volcano Motorsport will enter the opening round of the 2020 TCR Europe series at Circuit Paul Ricard later this month, running a CUPRA TCR for Evgenii Leonov.
Leonov, 36, is a regular competitor in the TCR class of the Campeonato de España Resistencia, where he shares his car with 2018 TCR Europe champion Mikel Azcona.
The duo secured three race victories last year, and have already claimed a double win at the Circuito de Los Arcos in Navarra.
“We are considering this season as preparation for a full campaign in TCR Europe in the near future,” said Russian racer Leonov.
“It will be very important for us to finish the races in France and to compete on the same level as the more experienced international drivers.
“Our aim is to become truly competitive members of the TCR Europe community.”
Team Manager Andrei Tkachenko added that the team were planning to return to the TCR Europe grid later in the year.
“Our plan for this year is to take part in the full TCR Ibérico championship as well and to return to TCR Europe again at Spa and Barcelona.”
