Team BMW will run in a striking black livery for the 2020 British Touring Car Championship season, revealed alongside its unchanged driver line-up of Colin Turkington, Tom Oliphant and Andrew Jordan.
The second season of the BMW 3 Series in the BTCC will see a change from white to black for the official BMW team. The cars will continue to feature the iconic BMW M colours of red, navy and light blue but on a matt black base this year.
The last time that WSR ran with a black livery was in 2005, when Rob Collard raced in WSR’s sole entry in the championship that season in an MG ZS.
The cars will carry the new livery in public for the first time on March 17 at Silverstone for the BTCC’s official pre-season test.
“It’s felt like a very long winter, but the BMWs have undergone a series of upgrades aimed at improving performance while not affecting the impressive reliability record we’ve had with them,” said WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts.
“The five days of testing we’ve had so far this year have been challenging, but productive and we’re right on-track with where we planned to be.
“Although we have the same ultra-strong line-up of drivers as in 2019, this year is a fresh start, so it’s fitting that we have a fresh new livery to go along with it.
“The BTCC is getting tougher to win as each year goes on, but we love a good challenge.”
Reigning champion Turkington feels that a change in the visual look of the cars will also create fresh interest ahead of the new season.
“When conversations started last year about radically changing the livery for 2020, we all felt a fresh new look would be a really positive move for our partners and fans,” said Turkington. “It’s created a real buzz ahead of an exciting new BTCC season!
“The BMW 3 Series is a stunning car and this new image reflects that perfectly.
“Looking forwards to the new season, I’ve no doubt about our potential and I’m feeling positive about the consistency we have with the 3 Series and the people, but we also have to move the game on – we have to make it count.
“The opportunity to test the car before the season kicks off has been extremely useful, and we’ll continue with this development programme at Silverstone on Tuesday.
“The competition in this championship comes from every possible angle, and the challenges grow year-on-year.
“I have to keep looking for gains, but success is like a drug to me – it inspires me to keep on pushing and keep on growing.”
