Austrian driver Dominik Baumann will join Target Competition for the remainder of the TCR Europe season, replacing Dušan Borković in the team after he was banned from the series following the previous event.
Baumann will step into one of the team’s five Hyundai i30 N TCR cars, starting with this weekend’s races at Oschersleben in Germany.
“It was not easy to find a replacement driver for Dušan in this short time,” said Team Principal Andreas Gummerer. “We are happy to be able to announce today that we made a deal with Dominik for the remaining rounds.
“At the beginning of March, we made a pre-season test with several new drivers and Dominik [has] been fast from the beginning. We are sure that his experience will help us, and he will be a strong team mate for our squad.”
The 27-year-old GT racer will get his first experience in racing touring cars this weekend, which he is looking forward to after a career spent in karting, single-seaters and GTs.
Baumann has previously proven himself as a title contender and race winner in the ADAC GT Masters series, the Nürburgring 24 Hours and the IMSA Sportscars Championship.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of racing the first time in a TCR car,” said the Austrian, who tested with the team earlier in the year. “The decision for me was easy as Target Competition is one of the top Teams in TCR.
“The remaining tracks are all well known to me and I hope I can support the Team to win the championship.”
