SLR’s Johan Kristoffersson emerged from the FIA World Touring Car Cup free practice sessions at the Nürburgring Nordschleife with the fastest time, his lap of 8 minutes 5.7185 seconds pipping team-mate Rob Huff by seven tenths of a second.
Kristoffersson lapped the 25.4 km circuit fastest of the day in the second of two-back-to-back 40-minute practice sessions, with his time pipping fellow Volkswagen racer Huff, who had been fastest in first practice, by 0.746 seconds.
Huff had been second quickest outright in the second session anyway, whilst Comtoyou Racing Audi driver Niels Langeveld was third fastest, also in FP2, a further tenth adrift, although the Dutchman crashed into the barriers towards the end of the second session and effectively prevented further improvements due to yellow flag conditions.
Münnich Motorsport’s Néstor Girolami had the fourth-fastest lap in the combined rankings, with the Honda driver the only other man to be below the 9-minute mark.
Hyundai duo Nicky Catsburg and his BRC team-mate Norbert Michelisz were fifth and sixth quickest in the combined times, ahead of the second Münnich Honda of Esteban Guerrieri in seventh and Jean-Karl Vernay in eighth, the duo having posted their times in first practice.
Qualifying for race one gets underway at 15:30 CEST (14:30 BST), followed by qualifying for race two at 19:30 CEST (18:30 BST).
