Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Dan Cammish topped the timesheets in second practice of the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton, just over half a tenth clear of Rory Butcher’s AmD Tuning Honda.
Cammish’s time of 1:15.589 came early on in the 40-minute session as most took advantage of the dry circuit, with Butcher’s late improvement putting him 0.069s adrift and displaying the pace of both shapes of Honda at the high-speed circuit.
Team BMW continued their strong form, with Brands Hatch winner Andrew Jordan and double Donington Park winner Colin Turkington placing third and fourth respectively.
Adam Morgan completed the top five, but finished his session early with a damaged splitter after he was forced to take avoiding action of Nic Hamilton’s spinning Ford at the daunting Church corner.
In sixth position was Matt Simpson who enjoyed a return to form in second practice, while Jake Hill continued his impressive pace in his Audi S3 to place seventh, completing an encouraging session for the AmD Tuning squad.
In the third WSR-run BMW, Tom Oliphant finished the session in eighth, while Jason Plato was ninth albeit nearly half a second off Cammish’s fastest effort.
Rounding out the top ten was triple champion Matt Neal ahead of fellow FK8 runner Chris Smiley in his BTC Racing Honda, with Aiden Moffat’s Mercedes-Benz A-Class in 12th.
Donington podium finisher Rob Collard managed 13th-fastest, with Josh Cook behind and Sam Tordoff in 15th.
Championship leader Ash Sutton struggled for pace in 16th position, with 2018 runner-up Tom Ingram just behind in 17th in the new-for-2019 Toyota Corolla.
Qualifying for the seventh round of the 2019 British Touring Car Championship is scheduled to get underway at 15:05, with a half-hour session at the high-speed Hampshire circuit.
