Esteban Guerrieri keeps Honda on top in Hungaroring second practice

Münnich Motorsport’s Esteban Guerrieri kept Honda on top of the times in second practice for the FIA World Touring Car Cup at the Hungaroring, edging out Comtoyou Racing’s Aurélien Panis by just 0.044 seconds.

Guerrieri put in a lap of 1 minute 52.913 seconds, around a second faster than Friday’s top time set by his team-mate Néstor Girolami, to pip Panis with just three minutes left of the half-hour session.

Panis had earlier put his CUPRA at the top of the times after 20 minutes with his lap, where he remained until Guerrieri demoted him to second.

Cyan Racing’s Yvan Muller put his Lynk & Co in third, a further two tenths of a second adrift, ahead of the best Hyundai of home hero Norbert Michelisz in fourth.

After the Volkswagen cars received a 10 kg weight break overnight, Johan Kristoffersson was the best Golf GTi driver in fifth, although he was the only SLR driver in the top ten, as his next best team-mate was Mehdi Bennani in 19^th.

Friday’s pace-setter Girolami ended up in sixth, ahead of KCMG Honda driver Attila Tassi in seventh, who ensured that there were two Hungarian drivers inside the top ten.

Jean-Karl Vernay, who is suffering from tooth ache as his wisdom teeth come through, was the best Audi driver in eighth, just over half a second off the pace.

Completing the top ten were Cyan Racing’s Yann Ehrlacher and BRC Racing’s Gabriele Tarquini, with the top ten covered by eight tenths of a second.

Qualifying for race one takes place at 11:45 CEST (10:45 BST).
