Andrew Jordan pips Sam Tordoff in opening practice at Brands Hatch

Team BMW’s Andrew Jordan went quickest the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session at Brands Hatch, pipping previous pacesetter Sam Tordoff.

Tordoff, who was fastest at the test day last Wednesday [27 March], lead the timesheets for the majority of the session, before Jordan’s late effort of 48.034s took him to the top in his new BMW 330i M Sport.

His encouraging pace meant he led a quintet of Hondas headed by Tordoff, with Dan Cammish, Chris Smiley and Matt Neal scoring third, fourth and fifth respectively in the FK8-model Honda Civic Type R.

In sixth position was Ash Sutton in his Subaru Levorg, before yet more Hondas in the form of Josh Cook and Rory Butcher.

Next was 2018 runner-up Tom Ingram in the new Toyota Corolla in ninth position just over two tenths off Jordan’s benchmark, with Stephen Jelley completing the top ten in the previous generation BMW 125i M Sport.

Next was Jake Hill’s Trade Price Cars Racing Audi S3, who had set the early pace in the session, with WSR’s new recruit Tom Oliphant just ahead of reigning champion Colin Turkington in 13th.

Two-time BTCC champion Jason Plato was 19th fastest in the session, just over eight tenths down on Jordan’s time.

Black and white flags were issued for Adam Morgan, Matt Simpson and Senna Proctor, most likely for track limit infringements.

The second practice session of the British Touring Car Championship is set to get underway at 12:05 BST, with qualifying at 15:10 BST.
