Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan says repairing the extensive damage to his Mercedes A-Class in time for the second contest at Donington Park “won’t be an easy task.”
Morgan qualified 14th for the opening race and was unsighted in the middle of the pack when he slammed into the side of Andrew Jordan’s sideways BMW 3 Series.
Jordan has since been taken to hospital for precautionary medical checks, while Morgan had some back pain but insists he is fine to continue racing later today.
“I wasn’t actually too winded, it was my back,” explained Morgan. Once I got out the car I just needed a minute to compose myself again and get it together.
“But the main thing was my back. I’ll be sore tomorrow, but I’ll be alright.”
The multiple race winner was disappointed but admitted such incidents are part of racing, and wished BMW Pirtek Racing’s Jordan well after the heavy collision.
“It’s just one of those things where you’re on the power going up the hill and all of a sudden a car just appears in front of you,” said Morgan.
“There’s nothing you can do. It’s one of those things unfortunately, I hope Andy’s alright.
“But hopefully we’ll manage to get out for hopefully race two, if not race three.
Morgan also explained that although the chassis is undamaged, but the entire front end of the car needs replacing.
“There’s a bit to do still, the lads are working their socks off. So I’m sure they’ll do the best to get it done as quickly as they can,” he said.
“Apparently the frame is alright, the chassis is fine. So it’s just a case of taking the whole front frame off and bolting a new front end back on.
“It won’t be easy task, but we’ve had a couple of practice runs at it so hopefully we’ll get it back out. We’ll give it a go.”
The second BTCC race of the day at Donington Park is set to start at 14:30 BST.
