Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green claimed the bragging rights by topping the final Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters practice session of the 2018 season at Hockenheim.
Green struggled to show significant pace in both qualifying and race one yesterday [13 October], but was the benchmark throughout the 30-minute session and improved on his time late on with a 1:33.032s lap.
This put him over three tenths clear of nearest rival Marco Wittmann, who is trying to put yesterday’s torrid results behind him.
The BMW racer was forced to miss qualifying while his team repaired accident damage from second practice, and ended the opening race prematurely as he pulled off late on with dirt and grass in the radiator causing his engine to overheat.
Race one polesitter Lucas Auer was next in his Mercedes-AMG, ahead of René Rast, who secured a record fifth consecutive win in the opening race to close in on the title fight.
Edoardo Mortara was next, 0.780s adrift of Green’s benchmark, ahead of race one podium finisher Robin Frijns, who enjoyed a late-race charge to second in the opening encounter.
In seventh was BMW’s Augusto Farfus just ahead of Nico Müller, while current championship leader Gary Paffett could only manage ninth ahead of fellow Mercedes racer Daniel Juncadella.
Title contender Paul Di Resta could only manage 13th, a full second down on Green’s timesheet-topping lap.
Qualifying for the final race of the 2018 DTM season is scheduled to get underway at 11:10 CEST (10:10 BST).
