BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan is eager to end his 2018 British Touring Car Championship campaign on a positive note, after reliability woes scuppered his Silverstone weekend.
The 2013 champion was running third in race one at the Northamptonshire circuit before losing power on the exit of Luffield, with a powersteering issue in race two effectively ruining his chances of strong results.
Heading into the season-ending Brands Hatch triple-header, BMW lead the Manufacturers’ Championship while Jordan sits seventh in the Drivers’ standings, just 17 points adrift of a top-three spot with 67 points available this weekend.
The Lichfield racer is targeting that third position in the standings, as well as hoping to help secure BMW the Manufacturers’ title at the same circuit he secured his BTCC championship five years ago.
“There are two key aims for me at Brands Hatch,” said Jordan.
“The first is to help BMW win the Manufacturers’ title, like last year, and the second is to be on the money right out of the blocks – as we have been at the past few events – score big points and end the season on a high.
“I’m seventh in the championship, but the gap to the top three is smaller than the number of points you get for a win, so that’s definitely achievable if we can turn the kind of pace we’ve had recently into solid results.
“It would be great get another win to add to the one we scored at Knockhill and the BMW’s definitely capable of doing that this weekend.”
Team Principal Dick Bennetts believes that Jordan is “easily capable” of securing third place in the drivers standings, stating that the 2013 champion has been one of the most consistently quick drivers this season.
“As a whole, 2018 has been a strong year for BMW Pirtek Racing; and in recent events especially, Andrew has been one of the consistently fastest drivers, as the win at Knockhill proved,” said Bennetts.
“That makes him an incredibly strong asset to have this weekend as we aim to deliver another Manufacturers’ Championship for BMW.
“He’s easily capable of finishing in the top three overall and this would be a great way to end the season.”
