Dan Lloyd is keeping his expectations ‘realistic’ for this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races at Knockhill, even through he took two wins at the circuit in the TCR UK series back in May.
Lloyd, who leads the TCR UK standings, was twice victorious when the new series visited the Scottish circuit on its reverse layout earlier in the year.
Since then, Lloyd has added a BTCC campaign to his season with BTC Norlin Racing, and both he and team-mate Chris Smiley have been victorious in the outfit’s Honda Civic Type R cars, most recently with Smiley in the last round at Rockingham.
But despite those successes, Lloyd insists that he has to be ‘realistic’ heading to Knockhill again this weekend, having taken five top ten finishes out of 12 races in the BTCC so far this year and having missed out on the points entirely last time out.
“I’m really looking forward to this weekend,” said Lloyd. “Knockhill is an incredible place to race at, it demands your full respect and most racers love going there.
“Although I took two wins here in the TCR Championship earlier in the year, I have to be realistic going into this weekend. We’ve had some great results, with my win at Croft and my team-mate Chris taking his first BTCC win at Rockingham.
“We’re definitely getting closer to where we need to be but we’re still playing catch up to others in terms of testing and seat time.”
Lloyd hopes to be competitive in qualifying around the short 2 km circuit, knowing that being close to the front will help him avoid some of the scuffles that hindered him at Rockingham.
“I’m aiming for a top five or six in qualifying and then to build three solid races from there. As always in the BTCC it’s about keeping out of the trouble, hopefully if we can manage that and bag three decent points finishes that would be mega for the team.”
