Andrew Jordan was pleased to leave Knockhill as the joint top scorer of the weekend in the British Touring Car Championship, after taking home a win, a third and a fourth place result.
The BMW Pirtek Racing driver had been one of the fastest drivers throughout Saturday’s sessions, and he was ultimately frustrated to miss out on pole position by less than a tenth of a second.
Sunday saw the arrival of heavy rain, and the first race of the day proved to be perhaps the hardest for Jordan, who lost out to fellow BMW driver Colin Turkington at the start and then had no answer to a hard charging Ash Sutton, who ultimately won the race.
After finishing in fourth, Jordan then made progress to third in the extremely wet second race, which went on to become victory after both Ash Sutton and Tom Ingram, who finished ahead of him on the road, were excluded for failing the ride height checks.
Jordan then capped off his strong weekend with third in race three to leave Scotland with 49 points – the joint highest along with Turkington – to ensure he remains in title contention, albeit 59 points down on Turkington.
“It’s been a great weekend and one that went better than I expected considering the rain on race day,” said Jordan. “The team did a mega job with the car to deal with the conditions and from the very start of race one, we had a car that was in the window and that I could attack with.
“To come away with a fourth, a third and a win is a job well done and whilst it isn’t the way that I wanted to take my first victory of the year, I’m not going to turn it down.
“At the end of the day, our car was within the rules and for whatever reason, the two in front weren’t – and a win is a win regardless of how it arrives.”
Jordan admits that he was relieved to have been able to have a strong points haul to show as reward for his pace, after picking up just four points at the previous meeting at Rockingham.
“We’ve picked up some really good points that have allowed us to jump up the standings, but I haven’t really been thinking about that.
“The big positive for me is that we have been near the top of the times in every session. The pace we have shown has been reflected in the results, which hasn’t always been the case this season.”
