Yvan Muller ‘couldn’t expect better’ after a strong start enabled him to claim the final spot on the podium in the second FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) race at the Slovakia Ring.
The ertshwile championship leader made a lightning getaway in the Hyundai i30 N from the fourth row, dispatching a quartet of cars in the opening exchanges to move into the top three.
Once settled, he was able to manage the car to the finish and give YMR a first podium finish of the weekend.
“Everything was in the start and in the first three corners,” said Muller.
“Fortunately, I could have a better start than Vila Real and I could gain quite a lot of places before the first corner and the rest a bit later.
“It was a great race, I started seventh and to finish on the podium I couldn’t expect better.
“It’s good for the points for the team and after what happened yesterday and also we struggled with the set- up since yesterday but step-by-step we improved and I hope we do another step tomorrow. The night will be short again to find a solution for tomorrow.”
The final race of the weekend gets underway at 11:45 BST tomorrow [15th July].
