Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff topped the times in second practice for the British Touring Car Championship after a relatively sedate session, with Honda’s Dan Cammish in second, two tenths back.
Goff hit the top of the times after just over ten minutes with a lap which was less than a tenth away from the qualifying lap record, putting his Honda in P1 with a time of 1 minute 56.547 seconds.
Cammish went second with just over five minutes left in the session to end up 0.244 seconds back, whilst the morning’s pace-setter Matt Simpson was third, just over three tenths off the pace, securing a Honda 1-2-3 at the top of the table.
Team HARD’s Mike Bushell was fourth quickest in his Volkswagen CC, with the Kent racer once again at the sharp end of the timesheets, this time in a dry and sunny session.
Brett Smith made it four Hondas in the top five by putting his Eurotech Racing Civic in fifth, ahead of HMS Racing’s Rob Austin in sixth, showing strong pace in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta on its first Snetterton outing.
BTC Norlin Racing’s Chris Smiley was seventh fastest, ahead of the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall of Senna Proctor in eighth, after the latter improved with ten minutes to go.
Honda’s Matt Neal and BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan completed the top ten, the latter once again the fastest of the BMW contingent of drivers.
Motorbase’s Tom Chilton failed to post a time after suffering from an engine failure early in the session.
Championship leader Colin Turkington was 11th, the BMW driver being the first driver more than a second off the pace.
Having been inside the top ten in the first part of the session, Subaru’s Jason Plato slipped down the timesheets as the session progressed and ended up in 14th, 1.190 seconds from Goff’s time. His team-mate and reigning champion Ash Sutton was 22nd fastest.
Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram could only manage the 15th best time.
Several drivers, including Tom Oliphant, Turkington, Proctor, Simpson, Sutton, Plato, Smith and Rory Butcher were shown the black and white flag for exceeding track limits, with Ciceley Motorsport’s Oliphant ultimately being shown the black flag and forced to stop for repeated offences.
Qualifying for race one takes place at 15:10 BST and will be streamed live at www.itv.com/btcc.
