Colin Turkington says he has the same hunger for success as ever as he heads to Croft for this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship races, having won there at least once in four of the last five seasons.
Turkington is the most successful driver around Croft, having tasted victory 12 times, with the circuit playing to the strengths of the rear-wheel drive machinery that Turkington has typically driven.
The Northern Irishman heads to the circuit in a strong position this year, as he is currently leading the drivers’ championship standings with a 12-point advantage.
The BMW driver expects to be able to continue the strong form he has shown in the past, saying that he has the same drive as before.
“Croft is another technical circuit with a few sections where you can be brave and try to find an edge on the other guys,” said Turkington.
“My record there is good, but right now it’s crucial to push on and return this weekend with the same hunger that earned me my first BTCC podium there in 2002.
“We’ll carry maximum success ballast for practice, qualifying and race one, but I’ll be going there with the same mentality and desire as before.”
WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts says the team have to work ‘harder than ever’ to maintain their sparking success at Croft.
“The whole team is incredibly motivated to keep this momentum going at Croft,” added Bennetts. “It’s the track where we took our first victory with BMW in the BTCC and where we’ve done extremely well through unlocking the speed of the 125i M Sport when it really matters.
“None of these results guarantee success this weekend and we know we must work harder than ever before to achieve more success, such is the closeness of the BTCC nowadays.”
