Jack Goff heads Eurotech 1-2 in second Brands practice

Jack Goff headed Eurotech Racing team-mate Brett Smith in the second British Touring Car Championship free practice session at Brands Hatch, as Honda cars filled six of the top seven positions.

Goff was on top of the times for much of the 40-minute session, with only the 2018 Honda Civic of Dan Cammish briefly able to depose the older-spec Honda driver from the top spot when he went fastest just before the half-way stage.

Brett Smith came within 0.075 seconds of his team-mate with an improvement in the last five minutes, whilst Cammish ended up third fastest, just under a tenth behind Goff.

At one stage the top six cars were all Hondas, until Speedworks Motorsport’s early morning pace setter Tom Ingram popped up with the fourth-best time, splitting the sextet of Civic racers.

That left the second Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda of Matt Neal in fifth, ahead of BTC Norlin Racing’s Chris Smiley in sixth and the third Eurotech Honda of Simpson Racing’s Matt Simpson in seventh.

With Honda’s dominating the top of the times, the rest of the field struggled to get a look-in. Motorbase’s James Cole was eighth, whilst Power Maxed Vauxhall duo Josh Cook and Senna Proctor completed the top ten.

Motorbase’s Tom Chilton was 20^th fastest, although the former WTCC racer went off with five minutes to go when the rear sub-frame on his Ford Focus RS broke.

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington experienced overheating issues in the session which prevented the Northern Irishman from completing as many laps, leaving the two-time champion down in 26^th position.

Subaru’s Ash Sutton also spent much of the early part of the session in the pits whilst his BMR team made changes to his car’s set-up, and he ended up in 25^th.

Indeed it proved to be a difficult session for all three Subarus, with Jason Plato down in 28^th and Josh Price propping up the timesheets in 32^nd.

Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 15:15 BST (16:15 CEST).
