Subaru’s Ash Sutton ended the annual Thruxton TOCA support test day with the fastest time, setting the quickest time in the afternoon to see off Brisky Racing’s Mike Bushell by less than a tenth of a second.
Sutton put in a time of 1 minute 15.717 seconds to end up 0.026 seconds ahead of Bushell’s Volkswagen.
25 drivers were in action during the afternoon session, with Bobby Thompson and Michael Caine taking to the track after lunch, having missed the earlier running.
Honda’s Matt Neal, who was third fastest, completed 26 laps in the session, having managed just eight in the morning due to throttle issues.
Lap times fell below the qualifying lap record for NGTC cars, which was set by Neal in 2017 at 1:16.040, although they were understandably behind the overall lap record set by Jason Plato in the Super Touring era at 1:12.562 in 2000.
The morning’s early pace-setter Tom Chilton was just ninth in the afternoon session, unable to better his time of 15:979 set in the morning.
Over 1,000 laps were completed during the test, which was shared with the Ginetta Junior Championship, Ginetta GT5 Challenge and Renault UK Clio Cup.
