WTCC star Rob Huff described his weekend standing in for Tom Chilton as a ‘dream’ as he took the Power Max Racing Vauxhall Astra to a strong second place finish in the last British Touring Car Championship race of the day.
Huff stated the race from second on the reverse grid, but got off to a strong start to lead on lap one, after which point he drove a defensive race for much of the encounter.
The WTCC regular eventually succumbed to the Honda of Matt Neal late in the race, but he still secured the best ever result for the new Astra in the BTCC.
“That was a dream weekend really,” said Huff to TouringCars.net. “Second is as good as a win for someone like me coming in for a one off weekend, starting 28th and just climbing up the field and staying out of trouble.
“I had a great race with Matt at the end there. I thought we might just have him but he managed to sneak past at the end.
“I just want to thank everyone at Power Maxed Racing and Tom Chilton for letting me come this weekend.”
Tom Chilton watched as his friend and WTCC rival Huff secured the team’s best result of the season in his first weekend with the squad.
“The boy did good,” commented Chilton. “I’m really, really happy! I knew we had the car. We did some big set up changes at Rockingham and got the car to be top four pace. We still don’t have it in qualifying but definitely have race pace.
“I think we worked better with the hard tyre. It’s looking good for Brands for me and I’m looking forward to getting back into the car and to follow the great performance we’ve had here.
“I got a third at the beginning of the year, Rob has got a second so we just need a first now!”
