Jack Goff was pleased to finally secure his first first win of the 2017 BTCC season at Silverstone in race two, as he passed Tom Ingram on the circuit to claim a hard-earned victory.
“That was a good win,” he said to TouringCars.Net after the race. “The car was fantastic. There’s nothing I could fault with the car.
“The key was the second lap. I got the run on Tom through turn one and carried some more speed through there. I managed to get alongside him and as soon as I got by him, I just got my head down to make sure I kept putting in good lap times.”
It wasn’t all plain sailing for him though, as Goff was concerned about the possibility of another late-race safety car intervention, which in the end did not materialise.
“I was having to managed my tyres in case the safety car came out later in the race as I was aware that Colin (Turkington) and Ash (Sutton) were quite close behind, and if Colin got ahead of Tom, I needed a big enough gap so he couldn’t catch me.
“It’s great for Eurotech as this is the first win since Jeff (Smith) took over the team. We are ticking a few things off our list and it’s nice to be back on that top step!”
Goff believes finishing on the podium in race three will be an uphill challenge, as the top nine will be reversed for the final race of the day.
“We will make a few little tweaks for the last race. We will only have another 9 kg of ballast but we will be back in the pack which makes things a lot more difficult. It’s a lot easier to carry the weight if you are at the front.”
