Dušan Borković was full of praise for the GE-Force team after the Thai round of the TCR International Series, where the Serbian driver twice came from the middle of the grid to secure top six finishes.
The Serbian racer had shown strong pace early on in the weekend, topping second practice before putting in a time good enough for seventh in Q1.
However, Borković then suffered from damage to the front-right of his car immediately after posting his time in Q1, causing damage which could not be repaired during the session.
With Borković not being allowed to start Q2 due to receiving external assistance to recover his car, it meant that he would start from 11th for race one and 13th for race two.
Determined drives in both races, coupled with the retirements of drivers ahead on the road, eventually gave Borković second in race one, his first podium since Austria in June, and sixth in race two.
“I am very happy,” said Borković. “P2 and P6 after the decision in qualifying yesterday are a great success.
“I started both races at the back and I was losing the tyres quicker while passing competitors. I was lucky my tyres and my car held out till the end.
“I am overwhelmed that Serbian flag is on the podium again and I showed what I can do. I am grateful to everyone who believed in me, starting with my team, fans and sponsors.
“On some circuits the car is good and in others we need to improve it, particularly in slow and medium corners, but the team did a really good job this weekend.”
Borković now has his sights set on passing Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Pepe Oriola in the drivers’ championship standings, with the Spaniard just two points ahead in fifth overall.
“The brakes were good in race one and I decided not to change them, but I started locking up in race two and so I had to be careful.
“Luckily the Alfa is a little bit faster on the straights and so I could keep [James] Nash and [Rob] Huff behind me.
“I’m not really focusing on the championship, but I know I’m not far behind Oriola now.”
