GE-Force duo Dušan Borković and Davit Kajaia admit that the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand ‘suits the car better’ after the pair ended second TCR International Series practice at the top of the times.
Borković put his Alfa Romeo at the top of the times in second practice, with team-mate Kajaia less than half a tenth slower as the pair became two of only three drivers to drop into the 1 minute 43 seconds bracket.
Serbian racer Borković admits that the nature of the Buriram circuit suits the Alfa Romeo better, as the car favours medium-to-high-speed corners.
“It was nice to be back in the car after the long break,” said Borković. “The car felt nice; we thought it would be good here after the twisty and slow Hungaroring and Oschersleben.
“It’s only free practice and you never know who is using what tyres and how worn they are.”
Kajaia says that the practice pace doesn’t paint a clear picture of the form this weekend, as teams try out different settings and different drivers use new and old rubber.
“I’m very happy – the first two places to Alfa is great,” added Kajaia. “The circuit suits the car much better than Oschersleben or Hungary and the car is also in great condition because the team has worked really hard.
“I’m keeping my fingers crossed for qualifying because it’s hard to say what will happen. All the teams tend to hide their performance in free practice and we know they will push harder, but we think we can improve the car a little for qualifying.
“I just hope to be in the top twelve in Q1 and then I cross my fingers….”
