Whilst Adam Morgan was happy with his third place in qualifying at Silverstone today, he thought he may have played it a bit too safe with respect to track limits.
Numerous drivers had their best lap times removed in qualifying – including eventual pole-sitter Jack Goff on multiple occasions, and Jason Plato who was black-flagged for the offcence – leaving drivers such as Morgan more cautious about pushing the limits.
“I got black flagged in free practice two, so I was really cautious as I thought they would be looking out for me already,” said Morgan to TouringCars.Net. “But I didn’t get any warnings or flags at all in qualifying so I was probably a bit too safe if anything.
“Third is really good, and I think that equals my best ever qualifying, so I am really chuffed to bits. If we do some good work from there tomorrow, we can hopefully get a podium, some good points and some champagne!”
Morgan admits that he is really keen to stay out of trouble in Sunday’s races and is targeting holding on to a podium to continue the momentum which he picked up at Rockingham, where he was on the podium in race three.
“It’s quite a short lap around here and there is only really three corners so we normally do one lap past the pits and come in to swap front to rears,” continued Morgan. “We went for two laps today and I still had to work the tyres really hard. They were about right after two laps.
“My plan is to stay out of trouble, get around the first corner and hopefully the first three of us can get away.”
