Dániel Nagy has been confirmed as remaining with Zengő Motorsport for the 2017 World Touring Car Championship season, giving the 18-year-old a second season in the championship.
Nagy made his début with the Hungarian team at the Race of Portugal in 2016, and he continued with the team for the remainder of the season, picking up a best finish of 11th in the penultimate race of the year in Qatar.
The Hungarian will line up alongside young Frenchman Aurélien Panis, who was in January announced as the first non-Hungarian to drive for Zengő Motorsport in the WTCC.
The news means that Ferenc Ficza, who raced for the team throughout 2016 with the exception of Argentina, will not be present on the WTCC grid in 2017, despite picking up two points finishes for the outfit last season. Zengő did reveal that Ficza has not left the team, however.
“I was in a very difficult situation,” explained Team Principal Zoltán Zengő. “it was not an easy decision, but ultimately the choice fell to Dániel Nagy. He will be included in the team’s Honda TC1’s in the WTCC.
“We are working hard on another large-scale project, about which I cannot reveal the details yet, but I can say that it will include Ferenc Ficza.”
The announcement means that there will continue to be five Honda Civic WTCC cars on the grid, with Zengő’s two cars joining the three factory Honda cars from JAS Motorsport.
