Tiago Monteiro took victory in the season finale of the TCR International Series in Macau, which was again interrupted by a red-flag period, whilst Stefano Comini successfully defended his title with fourth.
At the start of the race it was WestCoast Racing’s Monteiro who got the upper hand, with the Portuguese ace coming from third on the grid to pass both of the Leopard Racing Volkswagens before turn two.
Monteiro held the lead over the opening three laps, before the race was suspended due to Sunny Wong having spun his CTCC Citroën into the barriers at Moorish Hill and blocking the track.
A lengthy delay then ensued, despite the cars being cleared from the track relatively quickly. Such was the length of the stoppage, at nearly half an hour, that the race distance was again shortened, leading to half points being awarded once again.
Monteiro held on to his lead at the restart, whilst behind him Jean-Karl Vernay passed Comini for second heading towards Lisboa bend, putting the Swiss racer into the clutches of a racy-looking Pepe Oriola in third.
The following lap, which was also the last lap, then saw the Craft-Bamboo Racing driver also pass the defending champion for third at the same corner, leaving Comini to settle for fourth.
That turned out to be enough for the Volkswagen racer, who edged out Craft-Bamboo Racing’s James Nash for the drivers’ title, with the Brit only managing to salvage points for eighth as a result of starting down the order.
B3 Racing’s Dušan Borković took fifth, ahead of Target Competition’s Josh Files in sixth, with WestCoast Racing’s Mikhail Grachev in seventh.
Nash put in a valiant effort to take eighth, having started the race outside the top ten, but ultimately the damage he sustained in race one proved to cost him dearly with overtaking being challenging even over a full race distance on the Guia street circuit.
Mulsanne Racing’s Andrea Belicchi, and Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Andy Yan Cheuk Wai, completed the top ten.
