After securing his best qualifying and race results for Team IHG Rewards Club last time out at Knockhill, Jack Goff is aiming to carry the momentum from those results forward for the rest of the British Touring Car Championship season as the circus heads to Rockingham this weekend [27th-28th August].
Goff, who narrowly missed out on pole position in Scotland and was forced to settle for a close fourth, battled through to score a second place result in the first contest, before underpinning it with another two strong points finishes to give his campaign the mid-season boost it needed.
With Goff’s best ever qualifying of third coming at the 1.94 mile Rockingham Motor Speedway, he arrives in good spirits, equipped with arguably the weapon of choice at the moment in the form of the BMW 125i M-Sport.
Despite being some 61 points adrift of WSR team-mate and championship leader Sam Tordoff, Goff still stands a chance of surpassing his performance of last season and cementing himself within the top five in the standings with a hat-trick of good results in Northamptonshire.
He is hopeful that his lack of success ballast relative to those in front will pay dividends, and the first ever running of the harder compound of Dunlop tyre at the circuit could throw another variable into an already unpredictable weekend.
“The Knockhill result was just what we needed to get back on track and Rockingham should be a decent circuit for myself and the Team IHG®Rewards Club BMW as we go there with very little success ballast.” he commented.
“Last year I qualified third at Rockingham, which is my best BTCC starting spot, and after I made it to fourth on the grid last weekend at Knockhill, I know that if we can tie everything together for the crucial lap, then there’s no reason why a repeat – and at least one podium finish can’t be on the cards.”
The first race of the weekend gets underway at 11:37 on Sunday 14th August.
