RML has successfully completed the shakedown of the first two of their brand-new TC1 Chevrolet Cruzes which will compete in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship.
Both of the first two cars completed their shakedowns, with the machines to be delivered to Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente and ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Chilton as the first customers to place an order.
Speaking after the shakedown, RML’s Director of Motorsport Ron Hartvelt admitted that it was a proud moment for the team to have completed the cars on schedule.
“The timeline for this project has been incredibly tight and I was immensely proud of everyone involved when car 001 rolled out this morning,” said Hartvelt. “That this shakedown was successfully completed to the schedule we predicted back in October is a testament to the talent and dedication of the whole organisation.
“Of course we would have much preferred a proper test and development programme before handing the cars over, but we are confident that the customer teams will do a good job.”
RML themselves will not compete in the 2014 WTCC, with the six cars being delivered to Campos Racing, ROAL Motorsport and Münnich Motorsport respectively. The Northampton-based outfit will instead focus on offering customer support to the teams as they compete in 2014.
Hugo Valente and Tom Chilton will participate in the car’s first test later this week, when they take to the track in Valencia in a combined test session with Citroën, Honda and LADA.
