RML’s Yvan Muller was the fastest driver in second practice for the World Touring Cars at Sonoma Raceway in the USA, posting a lap 0.031 seconds faster than Norbert Michelisz.

Zengo Motorsport’s Michelisz had set the early pace in the session, posting his time of 1:46.299 within the first five minutes. The Hungarian thereafter remained on top until the final five minutes of the session, when championship leader Muller posted his time, which was just 0.031 seconds quicker than Michelisz.
Hugo Valente was third fastest for Campos Racing, having improved from 20th to third in the final seconds of the session. Honda’s Gabriele Tarquini also put in a strong lap in the closing minutes of the session and ended up fourth overall.
RML’s Tom Chilton was fifth, ahead of bamboo-engineering and fellow Chevrolet driver James Nash in sixth.
Wiechers-Sport’s Fredy Barth improved significantly on his time in the first practice session by going seventh fastest and ending up as the fastest BMW driver. Fellow BMW driver Mehdi Bennani was eighth for Proteam Racing.
The second Campos SEAT of Fernando Monje was ninth fastest, despite an earlier off at the Carousel which briefly brought out the red flags in the first five minutes. Darryl O’Young completed the top ten for ROAL Motorsport was was the last driver within a second of the top time.
After his crash in first practice, ROAL’s Tom Coronel was 17th despite a spin at turn nine.
Rob Huff had a difficult session, finishing 24th and last.
Qualifying takes place at 14:00 PDT (22:00 BST; 23:00 CEST).
